If the villain of the story wants to take away women’s agency because they hate women - so they shoot her in the neck in such a way that she can feel pain but she’s helpless- cool, he’s a bad guy. What you should make sure you do prior is not show the woman so fucking pathetic she can’t even turn off the goddamn alarm. Or you know show her trying to turn off the alarm instead of running away/hiding/ god forbid fighting -anything.
When you say things like “watching me take what is his away from him” you have to establish that this is what the killer wants to do because the man is a fucking psychopath who believes that women are the property of men and that is how he thinks, this is part of his design.
Once again. You can show women being raped, beaten, murdered, what makes a show problematic is when you show that this behavior/pattern of thinking is normal. Also showing women being accosted repeatedly *cough Criminal Minds cough* it also become a problem.

Criminal Minds goes the extra mile in the lesson. E for effort, as their only intended goal at this point appears to be female dehumanization. They did a whole show involving a man who wanted to turn people into puppets kidnapped and killed several men and not one of them reached the level of brutalization and degradation than did the only female victim.
Aside from her mangled bones and the insentient tired practice of making every woman on the planet a screamer/wailer/crier/weak/person who ask stupid questions of their attacker, There was the agency of the male kidnapped victims in comparison to the female victim. She only ever demonstrated compliance and weakness, the males attempted to resist and were depicted as regaining their dignity in death- even if they hadn’t really.
You can always tell whether or not women are being depicted positively in a negative situation or just being dragged through the mud by how you fell about their characters. ——

the last episode we see that the women are not in fact sleeping- but in a fuckin nether world fighting fire and tornadoes and god knows what else - not sleeping but surviving purgatory hellscape. In addition we see the women raging mental battles to fend off the PTSD for good, building walls and then volunteering to tear them down to fight the good fight.

The problem with the belief that all women who dress a certain way are a tease and because of that do not have licences to take issue with street harassment is in the faulty base assumption that all men tend to make: that when we decided to get dressed in the morning, we had them in mind. As unlikely as it sounds most days my clothes have shit-all to do with you or anybody else. Most days we actually think to ourselves what would i like to see in the mirror today. And then we put that on.

Not having a TV, I don’t see a lot of advertisement for shows. Before Scandal came out one of my friends who had seen lots of commercials for the show was under the impression that the show was catty or some how frivolous. Having seen the show my only response was massive side eye. They however had not seen it yet- only the adverts, seeing this poster now I realize why.
Here Pope looks like a scared over-made up child. And quite frankly looks likes she’s about to be sexually assaulted by some white guy. Anyone who sees the show can tell you Olivia Pope’s character can be easily one of the strongest black women ever depicted on television with the highest level of government connections-take-no-prisoners demeanor.
So who ever is in charge clearly thought that such a gross misinterpretation of the show would attract viewers, well the were probably right. In this case, as much as it disgusts me, I think If I were in advertising iI would probably do the same thing. I don’t think marketing a strong black woman trailblazing with a team of lawyers in her wake would sell at a cursory glance. At this point in television representation what you want is for them to see the show.
It isn’t as if Grey’s Anatomy (Shonda’s former glory) is any different. Meredith Grey, while that main character was backed up by three main black characters - all her superior’s, all kick ass. So although the poster makes me cringe. I can’t think of a better way to do this thing. I think it is good way to appeal to the main stream.

Welp my lovelies I saw a very interesting clip on TRMS and I wanted to share it but it eludes me. Still I feel it’s worth mentioning.
The topic was women’s rights and some nice lady involved in women’s rights work was railing about the GOP’s recent legislation in various states regarding shutting down all clinic’s (like planned parenthood) via enacting harsh unnecessary ”safety” policies that no clinic would be able to comply with.
e.x. all door ways must be x ft wide to fit gurneys (the kind that are only used in major hospitals)
In closing the lady insisted that this is not about abortion but that women get health care screenings at these places and that it is about making sure women are healthy so they can get back to taking care of their families.
The problem with women right’s remains - as I keep trying to articulate here- silly me. Is that women are not people. That lady (did i mention it was a lady) insisted that women must be healthy not because we are human beings and we deserve not to get breast cancer, but because if we are sick who will take care of the children. Women - even to ourselves- are still seen as baby makers and rearers and nothing else. We do not have thoughts or feelings or USE in this world save to produce and raise children. We are not autonomous nor worthy of care in and of ourselves we are simply simply tools that need to perform at capacity so that we may produce more babies.
It may me sad. I thought I’d bum you out and attempt to remind people that the source of all disrespect of women is the notion that we are not human in the first place. We fix that, the rest will follow.
