Trying to be aware*
I really hate the intro for almost human
I definitely think it has to do with it being a female and not used to hearing a female voice intro this kind of story [or any for that matter] but also i just think it doesn’t sound authoritative?? perhaps??? (this is gendered too obviously)
but i can’t think of a lot of authoritative sounding women that don’t have more masculine sounding voices per say just - i suppose it’s kind of mumble-y
first thing that comes to mind for awesome voice over ladies is desperate house wives lady
very female but still very authoritative and for instance still less masculine sounding then (in the same vein) Lynette Scavo or even bri vande camp of the same show
the voice over just sounds like
It sounds like a library reference clip or information from a computer hard drive, encyclopedia Encarta-esque
an omniscient narrator telling a story about a dystopian future
Burt’s Bees, the all-natural skin care company, has a socially conscious, eco-friendly rep, but after a petition circulated about so-called sexist packaging on a jar of their moisturizer, the cosmetics company issued an apology.
People who do well at positive representation for a marginilzed group or mabe even two groups get automatically raised to this position of diety
And then when they do one thing wrong or actually do have a legit majorly problematic element to their storytelling /whatever medium it may be/ people just
Ugh uhh omg I knew that mf was sketch any way fuck that person they are etc. And discard them
The thing is we don’t have many heros in the representation game and the thing that made that person so good about representing one group isn’t erased
Their whole body of work is not invalidated
it’s not healthy for us to keep holding regular people to these impossible standards
People stay preaching
I CAN LIKE THIS SHOW AND STILL CONFRONT IT’S PROBLEMATIC PARTS
but can’t do that for fellow human beings
Thats why we have the word problematic.
This aspect of this one thing you are doing is problematic.
you are not suddenly dead to me because you fucked up on a thing we all once thought was perfect.
Call em out don’t throw em out ugh that < was hella cheesy
Getting more vigilant by the day about men and entitlement
I don’t owe you a conversation
I don’t even owe you eye contact
You most certainly don’t get to touch me and try and force and handshake
Or turn me by my arm and force eye contact
I am developing a script for these more frequent occasions
I don’t owe you attention
I don’t owe you shit
When strange men think you owe them something: a anecdote
So just recently an incident that has happened to be only once before occurred again.
I’m in a group and I am talking to one of the people in the group. A person comes up and introduces themselves to other people in the group. I am in mid conversation and this stranger introduces themselves to me. I elect to finish my sentence with the person I’m talking to but the very offended and angry stranger interrupts louder and enters my physical space to do so.
Both times they were men. Both times I intentionally avoided eye contact with the person to indicate that I was still mid sentence with these other people.
The first time this happened the stranger physically grabbed my hand to force a hand shake as if I was being rude by not addressing them immediately. To which I responded with my best *nigga who the fuck is you* face finished my conversation and then introduced myself.
That guy- who was a hella cool person btw- seemed to understand even if he didn’t agree with me that I had the right to address him whenever the fuck I wanted to, if at all.
I actually did want to have a conversation with that person which is why I wanted to finish my first conversation so I could actually give that guy my full attention.
The second fool though. I tried to explain to him why I didn’t owe him shit or try and figure out why he thought he had the right to interrupt my conversation and he was on some shit like *i’m sorry you felt that’s how that situation went*
Nah bruh, that’s what happened. I don’t even fucking know you, what if I don’t want to talk to you or meet you, what the fuck about that? I don’t owe you shit. You a stranger.
GoldieBlox is a construction toy + book series starring Goldie, the kid inventor who loves to build.
If the villain of the story wants to take away women’s agency because they hate women - so they shoot her in the neck in such a way that she can feel pain but she’s helpless- cool, he’s a bad guy. What you should make sure you do prior is not show the woman so fucking pathetic she can’t even turn off the goddamn alarm. Or you know show her trying to turn off the alarm instead of running away/hiding/ god forbid fighting -anything.
When you say things like “watching me take what is his away from him” you have to establish that this is what the killer wants to do because the man is a fucking psychopath who believes that women are the property of men and that is how he thinks, this is part of his design.
Once again. You can show women being raped, beaten, murdered, what makes a show problematic is when you show that this behavior/pattern of thinking is normal. Also showing women being accosted repeatedly *cough Criminal Minds cough* it also become a problem.
such a girly password: teakettle
why are we still talking about mrs. marlow and not mr. marlow?
Why did she deserve to die? Please tell us.
lemme guess, the girls were actually young women?
Girl are candy bars.
what kinda sausage?
hahaha he said tea cup.
welll next week looks way more interesting
Magazine covers always talk about middle aged or older women with their age in giant letters
"XX and still fabulous"
but men are never too old to have age splashed across the front page like a scarlet number
men can age
women have to remain young forever
Criminal Minds goes the extra mile in the lesson. E for effort, as their only intended goal at this point appears to be female dehumanization. They did a whole show involving a man who wanted to turn people into puppets kidnapped and killed several men and not one of them reached the level of brutalization and degradation than did the only female victim.
Aside from her mangled bones and the insentient tired practice of making every woman on the planet a screamer/wailer/crier/weak/person who ask stupid questions of their attacker, There was the agency of the male kidnapped victims in comparison to the female victim. She only ever demonstrated compliance and weakness, the males attempted to resist and were depicted as regaining their dignity in death- even if they hadn’t really.
You can always tell whether or not women are being depicted positively in a negative situation or just being dragged through the mud by how you fell about their characters. ——
