“Subtle race bias exists even as more explicit bias diminishes — that’s been repeatedly demonstrated in laboratory studies,” Research Assistant Professor of Psychology Max Weisbuch, the lead author of the study, said. “We wanted to look at the subtle social influences that can affect people outside of the lab, and television is a domain that reaches a lot of people. It was a matter of taking what some lab studies suggest … and investigating it in the media.”
In which TYT makes fun of a 14 yr old but seriously it’s adorable how horrible this kid is and how much of a carbon copy for the right wing hosts he is. Ben makes the point that I would. No way I would have said that shit at 12 and nobody I knew would have and I knew a whole bunch of religious kids who believed it was a sin. “Sickening” is 5much and that kid needs to have a fucking seat. Ben is right kids are kills themselves 14 is way to goddam old to act this damn nasty.
look at you media corrupting our babies
“Kony 2012 Video is Some Bull”
Here I am, thinking I’m doing something nice and helpful, and then I see this video.
I no longer know what to think. I apologize if this is true. -_-;
GOD BLESS HER.
Interesting perspective from a Ugandan.
The important thing is to do some actual research, perhaps listen to a few actual Ugandans, and do some background checks before plowing your money into any organization, especially one that pays its founder over $90,000 a year.
I am trying to avoid commenting this whole Kony 2012 thing i reblogged something earlier, I think this video is a good edition. Still my thoughts remain the same- Please nobody take this as a direct response to the video. The following is about the Kony 2012 campaign and all other activist struggles with issue visibility but you should watch the vid cause she’s cool.
the terrified female in these tv shows and films
isn’t even sexist anymore it’s lazy
i mean goddam
i fucking bored of it now
how many women have to scream their heads off
while the man saves the day
before writers can think of something else
i’m not even offended anymore
i’m just so fucking over it
guess what we saw this already
I feel like every time I go somewhere it’s like a sociological expedition.
So I went to Hallmark today to get Christmas cards, and I was wandering around the store. There were two distinct sections for birthday cards on one entire wall — “Her Birthday” and “His Birthday”, which can be seen above.
It’s obvious that the sections are made up of completely different colors. The women’s section is made up of soft pastel colors, with many pink cards, while the men’s section has very dark and bold colors, like black, brown, and blue.
It continues to amaze me how if you really look around, you will see how much gender distinction there is. And it’s based on nothing but stupid societal norms that aren’t based on facts at all. Pink used to be for boys (it was related to red, a strong and bold color) while blue was used for girls (it was related to the Virgin Mary and was considered to be “delicate and dainty”) until the 1940’s, which shows how fast what’s considered “normal” can change.
What’s even more pathetic is that the “women’s colors” are always chosen for their soft and delicateness, while the “men’s colors” are chosen for being strong and tough. I for one am tired of being labeled as a delicate little flower because I have a vagina and boobs, but that’s a whole different discussion on traditional gender roles (which we should all know are bullshit).
I can’t wait until the day where the only difference between “his” and “her” sections like this are the pronouns.
When you hear it out loud, it’s stupid.
Respect is earned, everyone knows that, you can’t force someone to respect you it doesn’t work that way.
So every time anyone says respect women it has to fall on def ears.
Respect comes from acknowledgement of who we are as people.
Representation of us as humans is how we earn respect in the meta culture
because when we are being people that are worth respect individually; it doesn’t add up, it’s isn’t cumulative.
We say respect because we know that saying don’t: rape, beat, degrade ectetera.
won’t work either, because no one wants to consider themselves a rapist a woman beater
(which of course should be just beater, the woman qualifier puts us in a unnecessary second class of protection, mostly implying that we cannot protect ourselves therefore it’s especially important no to beat on us.)
or an abuser of any kind
so we say respect. but as stated above that is no more effective than anyone else saying it a person specific situation, where someone is being disrespected.
The way we can earn it, the proof that we deserve it, is through representation. So we must
“You are misrepresenting me” “That’s a fucking lie” and create out own images until we are no longer
we must become human in their eyes, by becoming human in our own first
we have to fabricate a storyline of who we are where we came from and who we want to be,
because we have rarely be recorded or even noted upon
either invisible or objectified
so we have no narrative but what we have been given, given to us by those who would see us as props of some sort
we must manufacture our exsistance
we will gain respect once we are human, no sooner
no one respects an object, i’d be dumb to ask someone to
