People who do well at positive representation for a marginilzed group or mabe even two groups get automatically raised to this position of diety
And then when they do one thing wrong or actually do have a legit majorly problematic element to their storytelling /whatever medium it may be/ people just
Ugh uhh omg I knew that mf was sketch any way fuck that person they are etc. And discard them
The thing is we don’t have many heros in the representation game and the thing that made that person so good about representing one group isn’t erased
Their whole body of work is not invalidated
it’s not healthy for us to keep holding regular people to these impossible standards
People stay preaching
I CAN LIKE THIS SHOW AND STILL CONFRONT IT’S PROBLEMATIC PARTS
but can’t do that for fellow human beings
Thats why we have the word problematic.
This aspect of this one thing you are doing is problematic.
you are not suddenly dead to me because you fucked up on a thing we all once thought was perfect.
Call em out don’t throw em out ugh that < was hella cheesy
Yet another story in which both the men and women are flawed characters but the women receive no opportunities for vindication or their actions are never justified. While the men can engage of “bad behavior” and it is depicted as warranted given the situation, - or even worse blamed on the women that are around them.
watching someone crying over some dead person shout/cry/whine
for the 50 millionth time.
As a person of faith who has been through some kinds of shit. I am so freaking annoyed when the media shows very religious/causally religious people momentarily or permanent loose their faith or shake their fists to the heavens and blame what ever deity they prescribe to when tragedy strikes.
You never see people who’s faith is resolved. Whose cause is strengthened. Who believe more then they did before. Those people actually fucking exist. Not everybody throws up their hands and gets pissed at their gods when something bad happens, some people believe deeper, harder.
I swear the only time I’ve ever seen this not happen is pitch black.
When one of his kids dies, he’s literally in his hands and Riddick is basically taunting him saying the words “where’s your god?”. Holy man never loses faith. He always has a retort. “He is with us none the less” or pointing out positive aspects of a horrible fucking situation as evidence of god etc. Though to be fair though in that movie the evidence of god’s existence is not up for debate. Riddick is a believer.
Bring it on and Save the last dance were popular because they hired good young actors to navigate complex discussions on race relations from a youth perspective and hid them under tumbling and dace moves. Save the last dance focused on white privilege and and interracial relationships not bothering to pull punches
"Don’t just be here to be here, open up your pretty brown eyes and look the hell around."
Bring it on focused on Cultural Appropriation and inequalities in the school systems.
"I hate to be predictable, but I don’t give a shit! We learned that routine fair and square. We logged the man-hours. Don’t punish the squad for Big Red’s mistake. This isn’t about cheating. This is about winning. Everyone in favor of winning?"
The ones to follow were shity not just because ‘that is what happens to squeals’ or because the actors weren’t as good but because the conversation of race or anything else important was taken out and the movies became a mere husk of themselves devoid of any actual topic worth discussing.
"Subtle race bias exists even as more explicit bias diminishes — that’s been repeatedly demonstrated in laboratory studies," Research Assistant Professor of Psychology Max Weisbuch, the lead author of the study, said. "We wanted to look at the subtle social influences that can affect people outside of the lab, and television is a domain that reaches a lot of people. It was a matter of taking what some lab studies suggest … and investigating it in the media."
In which TYT makes fun of a 14 yr old but seriously it’s adorable how horrible this kid is and how much of a carbon copy for the right wing hosts he is. Ben makes the point that I would. No way I would have said that shit at 12 and nobody I knew would have and I knew a whole bunch of religious kids who believed it was a sin. “Sickening” is 5much and that kid needs to have a fucking seat. Ben is right kids are kills themselves 14 is way to goddam old to act this damn nasty.
look at you media corrupting our babies
“Kony 2012 Video is Some Bull”
Here I am, thinking I’m doing something nice and helpful, and then I see this video.
I no longer know what to think. I apologize if this is true. -_-;
GOD BLESS HER.
Interesting perspective from a Ugandan.
The important thing is to do some actual research, perhaps listen to a few actual Ugandans, and do some background checks before plowing your money into any organization, especially one that pays its founder over $90,000 a year.
I am trying to avoid commenting this whole Kony 2012 thing i reblogged something earlier, I think this video is a good edition. Still my thoughts remain the same- Please nobody take this as a direct response to the video. The following is about the Kony 2012 campaign and all other activist struggles with issue visibility but you should watch the vid cause she’s cool.
