shit mixed people get
OK OK OK this is in reference to the Trayvon Martin case in which everyone agrees that the kid was shot because he was black or looked suspicious
what I and some others are trying to argue is that he looked suspicious cause he was black and there are people out there with a vested interest in equating the two. This is problematic in average everyday life as it can result in for example not getting hired for a job// in this extreme cause the perpetuation of the “scary black man” mythos gets a child murdered.
So the question is not. Whether or not Zimmy here is a an actual i hate black people racist but how can we address the structural racism that exists within our society that infiltrates our mind and mostly causes people to want to shoot us.
I have already posted this clip a lot earlier but i think it is the perfect example and HOPEFULLY should explicate how such mythos function in our society whether the individual has personal hate feelings or is just crazy paranoid
Did we get all that? This idea of the scary black man operates in our society even in other black men yea??? K, good. And it is perpetuated by the media. It has REAL CONSEQUENCES people die or get held back in school, or never get that job, or just generally walk around mentally unsound internally hating themselves on some level. This is how oppression operates. This is how representation dictates our interactions with other human beings. This is why we are here. This is also and awesome fucking sketch.
you many have noticed a bunch of tweets about the hunger games concerning rue
now i have never read the hunger games - or even heard of it till the movie rumors started
and from what i can gather it sounds like some awesome class warefare battle royale type shit
additionally i can gather that the character Rue was a small frail cute looking girl

which appears to be exactly what they cast
The problem is of course that as black hasn’t ever been represented as anything
if you note the comments.
because books are one of the few places the mas media and the powers at be do not completely control… normal people who don’t happen to be white get written about all the time *gasp*
Rue was a character that many identified with and because we are not represented in this country in a manner that is well- human, people tend to project.
In one case you see a pale red head tweet that she thought that Rue was a pale red head. Personal biases aside the media still generally is in charge of shaping who and what we think can be innocent or fail or anything. So despite the fact that the book explicitly states that she is brown, dark skinned, dark haired, just like another character in the book only dark, so forth.
People’s minds cannot processes what in their heads is illogical so they go into denial or change things around in their head. They do anything to correct what they believe is an error - because that character Rue that was most likely written as a person -could never be black.
as per usual no one give a shit and there is virtually no coverage in the main stream media, the most is the exact same circulating two paragraphs on various outlets
Still meandering towards catching up with all of Merlin. I thought that the above screen capture from the sword in the stone part 1 was the perfect analogy for Merlin’s entire perspective on women and people of color. I written ranted on this briefly before, mostly because anything that needs to be said is so obvious still, the photo.
Here Agravaine supposedly an evil traitorous bastard yet is still represented as a refined human-type human being who is weak stomached in the face of torture - because well he’s a good person,
While Morgana the evil bitch is threatening his life because he is not heartless enough. All the while Helios remains in the background, out of focus appearing brutish and without manners sloppily eating (you guessed it) chicken (oh well maybe it was turkey RITE?) and laughing at the sounds of Elyan’s torture - who btw- out of all the men that got captured and tortured it was the one black guy.
So yea I thought that screen cap perfectly illustrated the entire show’s attitude.
well past halfway through Merlin (middle of season three)
……and it still appears to hate women, and it’s pretty fucking racist
i was hoping praying for improvement
all the women are evil

except for the whole virginal dead mother trope
- no rationale
not on the wrong side of the fight

not justified in their anger
Just pure fucking evil
oh wait one chick merlin was crushin on was not evil she was just a viscous murdering monster that had to be killed - GOOD TIMES

even gwen cooper is evil!

the only non evil one is the other gwen

sorry that’s not her
she’s just so happy to wait on the royal family i get a bit confused

there we are
so the morale of this lovely series seems to be
or
so i really don’t think it’s going to improve
damn if they weren’t so freakin adorable together

fuck already!
this concludes my summarization of how dissapointing Merlin is
thank you, good day
seriously though

k thankx
