Here I am, thinking I’m doing something nice and helpful, and then I see this video.
I no longer know what to think. I apologize if this is true. -_-;
GOD BLESS HER.
Interesting perspective from a Ugandan.
The important thing is to do some actual research, perhaps listen to a few actual Ugandans, and do some background checks before plowing your money into any organization, especially one that pays its founder over $90,000 a year.
I am trying to avoid commenting this whole Kony 2012 thing i reblogged something earlier, I think this video is a good edition. Still my thoughts remain the same- Please nobody take this as a direct response to the video. The following is about the Kony 2012 campaign and all other activist struggles with issue visibility but you should watch the vid cause she’s cool.
the main stream news doesn’t cover these types of stories, not in any legitimate way, so telling people to read a paper or watch the news is like asking them to find a needle in a hay stack and then evaluate if what they found is really actually a needle.
They won’t read/watch the news even if these types of stories were covered properly. Syria is getting slanted coverage in the MSM cause the US has direct interests in syria there are a crap ton of other issues that need to be covered (what else is new) but that’s all irrelevant. People have neither the stomach, the time, the emotional capacity or the intellectual curiosity to deal with even half the horrible shit that goes on on this planet
So sad to say the only thing that does get people’s attention are things like a “hip video” regardless of whether or not the cause is worthy or made up or outdated or whathaveyou this stuff gets people involved and to date my biggest struggle as an activist the number one question i’ve had is not how to solve the problems of the world (we have a few ideas y’all) but HOW TO GET PEOPLE TO PAY THE FUCK ATTENTION AND HELP OUT
So yea this is crappy and IC is problematic ( i know some of these people) but as an exceedingly pragmatic person. I’d really prefer a national bullshit campaign that gets people thinking about something ANYTHING than just telling people to shut it down and “go do your research” would i like them to? YES will they NOT without something to get them interested in the first place. This is a perfect example ppl saw the vid and were like AHHHHHHHH then they looked a little further and was like [to paraphrase above] “this some bullshit” but they need something to get them there
With that in mind i direct you to a completely unrelated cause these people are doing awesome work in kenya GIVE them your money/time- not nearly as sexy as child soldiers but hey kids got to got to school right?
